The sun provides our world and it inhabitants with heat through the terrestrial wavelengths of light termed as ‘Infra-Red-A’ and ‘Infra-Red-B’ but not directly with Infra-Red-C which is filtered out by the atmosphere. The terrestrial wavelengths of light are full of energy as the photons of light travel down into our world. They are then available directly into an animal’s dermis where they will deliver energy naturally, we term this as being ‘bio-available’. Full-spectrum terrestrial daylight interacts with everything that it encounters and in ectothermic species such as reptiles it is within these wavelengths that they obtain the energy that they need to ‘function’. Terrestrial wavelengths of IR are also reflected and stored within everything that they encounter. This energy can then be reflected directly or radiated back away into the ecosystem as Infra-Red-C, as heated air. As such everything that energy rich full-spectrum light touches should be thought of as a ‘black body’.

Infrared-A and Infrared-B provide heat deep within the muscle tissues, warming the animal throughout just as it would in the wild. You can feel this as the warm ‘tingly’ feeling that you experience when you walk out into natural sunlight if you put your hand safely in front of the lamp.

The Arcadia Reptile ‘Deep Heat Projector®’ or ‘DHP’ provides essential heat deep into the body in a safe and natural way as a usable ‘flood’. This will allow captive animals to use heat just as they would in the wild, without the risk of overheating associated with tight beam heat lamps. The projected heat is then available to the animal just as it would be in the wild, via direct exposure to the skin and via radiated heat as the stones and decoration used under the basking zone radiate the heat back upwards, providing wild-like belly and flank warmth and increasing the ambient temperature.

The ‘Deep Heat Projector®’ actually uses far less power than many standard heating systems. In-Fact an 80w ‘Deep Heat projector’ can outperform a 100w CHE or tungsten heating lamp in heat generation and projection.

As with all lamps, the ‘DHP’ should be used with a suitable thermostat which will provide you with accurate control of your thermogradient and checked with a suitable quality non-contact laser thermometer. If used correctly this high quality, handmade heating lamp should provide you with a long period of stable heat provision.
The DHP produces virtually no visible light and should be used throughout the day and night. Therefore, it will not upset the important day/night cycles (circadian rhythms).
